About “Tātou tātou e” album project

Kog Studio and Te Māngai Paho presents: “Tātou tātou e”
“With sounds of organic reggae, urban soul and electronic elements, Kog Studio and a selection of Aotearoa artists present their te reo Māori waiata over the beats of Chong-Nee."
Kog Studio has just released this yearlong project available in store’s on July 12th 2010 and on itunes now, distributed by the wonderful Rythmethod.
The compilation features original waiata from Aotearoa artists such as Huia Hamon, Rachel Fraser, Jermaine Leef, Ron Mak and 2XL over the quality beats of Chong-Nee.
Fully created at Kog Studio, with the assistance of Te Māngai Paho, the album has vibes to suit everyone from reggae swing, R'n'B grooves to electronic rhythm. The main aim of the compilation was to create some high quality te reo Māori music for everyone to enjoy. We believed we have achieved this as well as helping the careers of all artists and musicians involved in the project.
This album combines the skill’s of trusted friend and mentor Ruia Aperahama, teamed up with Chris Chetland (mastering and music industry guru) and added a spice of fresh energy like Kog engineer’s Regan Riri and Andrew Clark. Include a dash of Kog's premium analogue gear like the classic ATR tape machine, flick in a few thousand hours of extra work and 'Tātou tātou e' project came alive.
With the inspiration of the Waitakere ngahere (forest), in our new studio in Titirangi, 'Tātou tātou e' is a labour of aroha and we are now ready to share this with the world!
‘Tātou tātou e 2’ is also in process! With the return of vocalists Huia Hamon, Jermaine Leef and 2XL, ‘Tātou 2’ brings the righteous sounds of Hani Totorewa (Katchafire) Ruia, WVVLC and Porina Mcleod to the project. Also featuring musical elements of Leon Davies (Katchafire), Jerome Cashell Mako (Hui-a), Chong-Nee and Regz Riri.
Selected tracks from 'Tātou tātou e’ will be released in English and as bilingual waiata.
